Lubbock cotton is not record-breaking harvest after all

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Well it turns out Lubbock area cotton did break some records in 2010, such as record high prices, but not the record for biggest crop ever.  The latest forecast for final results in 2010 is 5.56 million bales.

Prior to hail and severe thunderstorms in mid-October the forecast was for 6.16 million bales.  But Lubbock-based Plains Cotton Growers is not blaming the weather for a big drop in the forecast.  Instead it says the reasons are very much up for debate.

The previous record still stands 5.6 million bales in 2007.
