Cotton harvest equipment coming to state must be weevil-free

BATON ROUGE — Truckers and cotton farmers that use cotton harvest equipment brought in from other states to Louisiana must have the equipment certified as free of boll weevils or being from an area where they’ve been eradicated.

Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says equipment from areas with pink bollworm restrictions, including Texas, Arizona and New Mexico, should have a fumigation certificate or the proper federal Agriculture Department inspection.

Strain said equipment coming from all other states should have either a certificate, an official letter or other document certifying either that it’s weevil-free or came from an area where the pest has been been eradicated.

The equipment includes cotton pickers, cotton module builders, cotton module trucks, boll buggies, tractors and trailers.
