Cotton ginners asked to register online, provide data on capacity

In a bid to garner authentic data on cotton ginning in the country, the Textile Commissioner’s office has launched a website inviting ginners to register with their respective capacity details.

According to the office of the textile commissioner, Mumbai, it has developed a web based online system for filing of registration form by the independent ginning factories, independent pressing factories, cotton ginning and pressing factories, cotton traders and surgical cotton or cotton wadding manufacturing units.

“The concerned units or traders shall register with office of textile commissioner by visiting the website and then following the heading ‘Collection of Statistics on Cotton’ and accessing the link ‘Online Registration of Units/Cotton Traders’. After submission of online applications, the units/cotton traders have to submit the hard copy of online registration application duly signed to the concerned regional office of textile commissioner,” as per an official statement by the office of the textile commissioner, Mumbai.

The online system will be operational with effect from August 7, 2013, on commencement of which, all the concerned units/traders can complete the registration process by submitting their particulars online in the website of the office of textile commissioner.

It needs to be mentioned here that earlier in June, the Ministry of Textiles, through the Textile Commissioner’s office had called for data submission on cotton by independent ginning mills, factories and traders with a view to prepare a realistic “Cotton Balance Sheet”.

According to the ministry, the purpose is to collect “statistics on production, consumption and closing stock of cotton for preparation of a realistic Cotton Balance Sheet and determining the National Cotton Distribution Policy”. In case of traders, the returns will have to show the total quantity of cotton traded (exports and imports) during the month and from the commencement of the cotton season to the end of that month as well as the total stock of cotton in the possession of traders, at the end of the month. What’s more, apart from registering as an entity, the units/traders will be required to provide monthly returns in near future. “The development of online web based system for submission of monthly returns is in progress. The date of commencement of online web based system for submission of monthly returns will be informed shortly,” as per the official statement.
