Maharashtra government demands price cut in Bt Cotton seeds

The Maharashtra government has demanded that the producers of Bt Cotton seeds reduce prices by Rs 100 for 450 grams in view of the agrarian distress in the state. In case the seed producers do not comply, the state is willing to issue a notification, agriculture minister Eknath Khadse said.

There are 104 organisations registered to produce Bt Cotton in the state. Currently a 450 gram packet costs Rs 930. The state government wants the price to be reduced to Rs 830.
