America’s Hemp, Inc. has entered into a definitive 5-year term agreement to sell its industrial hemp fiber from its decortication plant in North Carolina to a premium hemp denim apparel company, Hemp Blue, it said in a press release.
Hemp Blue, Inc. specializes in environmentally friendly clothing and advocates for the return of agricultural hemp as a sustainable crop in the US. Hemp Blue will purchase the raw hemp fibre for the production of its hemp denim fabric and manufacture their hemp denim apparel line in the US all from hemp grown in the country.
Hemp, Inc.’s subsidiary, Industrial Hemp Manufacturing, LLC, is in the final phases of bringing a raw kenaf/hemp processing plant online in North Carolina and is expected to be operational early 2016 for the processing of kenaf, and expects to be operational for hemp processing in the third or fourth quarter of 2016. The company has already started marketing the industrial hemp raw materials they will be producing at its multipurpose industrial hemp decortication plant, with Hemp Blue, Inc. as its first hemp fibre customer, the release said.
Buce Perlowin, CEO of Hemp, Inc., said, “This is part of our long term planning. Many people were confused by the decision to place our kenaf/hemp processing plant in a farming region of North Carolina. Now that North Carolina has legalized the growing of hemp, the long term benefits of the location are obvious. I’ve known Hemp Blue’s Co-Founder, Robin Lane, since we were school-aged, so we go back quite some years. Hemp, Inc. has invested in Hemp Blue because we believe that Hemp Blue has the potential to be a real player in the blue jeans market, and they may become the first company since Levi Strauss to make blue jeans in the US out of US grown hemp, fabricated in the US.”
Robin Lane, Co-Founder of Hemp Blue, said, “Every garment symbolizes Hemp Blue’s fight for the legalization of industrial hemp farming in the USA to manufacture sustainable fashion made in America. Hemp Blue represents our fight for the legalization of hemp as a legal resource in the USA and the whole world. We are starting the movement towards a more sustainable future. Our goal, with the help of Kickstarter, is to make all collection pieces only of hemp.” (SH)
