India Cotton cultivation declines 8% Y/Y

India’s Cotton cultivation has taken a hit with an 8% decline this year. The national Cotton acreage has shrunk from 12.8 million hectare to 11.8 million hectare between 2014-15 to 2015-16, as per the latest statistics released by Cotton Corporation of India (CCI).

The CCI had earlier predicted higher Cotton acreage for 2015-16. Now, the total Cotton output of India is also expected to be a dismal 35.2 million bales, compared to the 38 million bales a year ago as farmers switched to food crops such as Soybean and pulses for better returns this time.
